Susan L. Ekstrom
Susan Ekstrom has been practicing law in Iowa for 33 years and for the last 22 years has shared an office with her husband Max Burkey. She graduated from Drake University Law School in 1976 having previously received a degree in Liberal Arts from Drake. The majority of her practice has been in the area of family law but she also has several longstanding business clients she provides legal services for. Susan is a trained mediator in the family law area working with the District Court Mediation Program. She has chaired and been a member of the Polk County Family Law committee as well as participating in the State Bar Family Law committee. She has received an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell, which is their highest rating. She was Polk County Bar Association president in 2007 to 2008 and currently serves on the State Bar's Board of Governors. She is a longstanding panelist on the Polk County Fee Arbitration Committee. She has argued cases, mostly relating to family, numerous times before both the Iowa Court of Appeals and the Iowa Supreme Court and once before the 8th circuit Court of Appeals. Susan is also active in politics and environmental issues. When she's not at the office she's probably kayaking, fishing, or riding her bike.
